Bacon Seeks Leffler Memorial Repeat on Sunday
Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (October 18, 2018) – Brady Bacon seeks to defend his title at the “Jason Leffler Memorial” winner when the USAC National Midget series event takes place this Sunday at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL.
Bacon topped the event in 2016, giving team owner Frank Manafort his first series win. Last year’s edition of the “Jason Leffler Memorial” fell victim to rain.
Bacon enters the event ranked second in USAC National Midget points with a win in September’s “BC39” inaugural event at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway among his nine overall triumphs on the season.
Bacon shifts back into Midget action on Sunday after a pair of World of Outlaws Sprint Car events last weekend at the Terre Haute Action Track and Eldora Speedway. Friday’s USAC Sprint Car card that preceded the WoO pair of events was rained out.
After showing good speed early in Saturday’s Terre Haute feature event, Bacon was forced pitside.
“We were pretty decent at Terre Haute, then we had an engine problem and had to pull in,” Bacon explains.
Following qualifying struggles at Eldora on Sunday, Bacon won the “C” Main before running out of laps in “B” Main action.
“We didn’t have the speed that we needed in qualifying and that set us back,” Bacon says. “There are too many good cars there, you can’t get behind like that and have much of a chance to recover.”
Already with 90 races in the books on the season, Bacon has just this weekend’s “Jason Leffler Memorial” and then on off weekend before heading to Arizona and California to close out the 2018 season.
