Brady Bacon – More Speed Out West!

(Bill W) March 15, 2016 – Brady Bacon continues to find the speed in Josh Ford’s #73 machine with the World of Outlaws. Saturday saw a ninth place finish with the WoO at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver also pulled down a top ten Saturday in USAC West Coast sprint car action. Brady will pilot the Manafort #76 in USAC National Midget action this Saturday night at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin.

Brady timed in seventh quick in his group with the WoO on Saturday. “We were close in Arizona (the previous Sunday),” he says. “We made some changes there throughout the night. We made the car a lot better, but didn’t finish the race. We were going around really nice at Tulare. I think we would have qualified even a little better if we weren’t the first car out. The track was a little greased up.”

He would start fourth in the heat. “We were right there in third in the heat,” says Brady. “We were able to stay right there with Brian (Brown) and Joey (Saldana).”

Brady would be late to staging after running the USAC West Coast feature. “We were supposed to start ninth, but they felt the need to penalize us for being late to staging even though we were racing in the non-wing feature right before that,” he says. “We wound up starting eleventh and fell back a little at the start. The track was really tight.”

He would rebound into the top ten. “We were able to get by a couple of guys there,” says Brady. “There was a wreck towards the end with fifteen laps to go. At that point we were ninth, and that’s where we finished. It was really hard to pass, but we had the speed to be there. That felt really good.”

Brady timed in fifth quick without the wing with the USAC West Coast series. “They’ve gone to a different format,” he says. “Fifth quick set us up starting third in the heat. The guy in front of us didn’t get a good start, and we wound up finishing fourth.”

He would start eleventh in that main event as well. “There was just no passing in the feature,” says Brady. “You had to take what you could get. We ended up finishing tenth. I think we had the fastest lap in the race. You just couldn’t do anything with the car in front of you when you reeled them in. To be honest, we were thankful to be able to race at all. It rained quite a bit the day before.”

After this weekend’s midget action, Brady will return to California with the Outlaws next week at Placerville. “We have a lot of optimism on the wing car right now,” he says. “We’re looking forward to getting back in that next week.”
